Integrating Health at UBC
Integrating health at UBC is moving forward.
Opportunity for UBC leadership in a changing system. The current health care system not does optimally address the needs and expectations of patients, providers or funders. The public also expects UBC to play a driving role in the evolution towards an integrated system that is focused on the wellbeing of the population, i.e. is patient-centered, team-oriented, and community-based. Our inability to step up is likely to impair our reputation, our ability to attract the best faculty and students, and our social license.
Clear objectives aligned with Place and Promise. Integrating health at UBC will help enable us to (a) promote research excellence through improved collaboration and support; (b) better prepare students to be competent health practitioners with greater alignment of education with health system innovations; (c) improve utilization of University and public resources to better support health research, education and practice; and (d) ensure more effective community engagement and collaboration with the health system.
Pragmatic plan to achieve integration at multiple levels. UBC's plan to achieve integration of health includes a focus on getting traction in integration through collaborative initiatives, operational realignment in Finance and IT to enable collaboration and efficiencies, considering achievable structural realignment around natural groupings to support broader integration, and the continued leadership and support of the Committee of Health Deans.
